Statement on Housing & Homelessness in 2026 CT Legislative Session

The following statement can be attributed to David Rich, President & CEO, The Housing Collective.

After a brutal winter, we’re thankful to Governor Lamont and the General Assembly for establishing a stronger and clearer protocol for protecting people who are unsheltered during extreme weather, and preserving existing funding for the homelessness response system.

As homelessness grows nationwide, Connecticut has an opportunity to meet the moment by protecting renters from evictions without cause, speeding up housing growth, and providing more resources for homelessness response. Despite small steps, lawmakers have not yet seized this opportunity.

Although the Governor and General Assembly can and must do more to make CT affordable, we deeply thank those lawmakers who are raising their voices for housing stability in our regions, including Senators Martha Marx, Bob Duff, and Julie Kushner and Reps. Antonio Felipe, Cristin McCarthy Vahey, Anne Hughes, Gerry Reyes.
