Opening Doors to Recovery

Hosted By

During this panel and networking event, harm reduction and recovery specialists will share resources, answer questions, and discuss best practices for navigating the dual challenges of recovery and homelessness. Panelists will explore strategies for supporting people who use substances and are navigating recovery while facing barriers to housing stability, how to assist individuals who may not be in immediate crisis but still need ongoing support, and how to build trust with those who may be hesitant to engage with recovery services.

During this session, attendees will learn more about:

  • What recovery programs are currently available for individuals experiencing housing instability?
  • What criteria do recovery programs use to determine eligibility, and how do they define treatable levels of substance use for intake?
  • How do providers balance harm reduction and abstinence-based approaches?

Please RSVP on Eventbrite.

Addressing substance use is a critical component of ongoing efforts to solve homelessness, as addiction can play a significant role in the cycle of housing instability. Substance use disorders can impair one's ability to maintain employment, navigate social services, and secure or retain stable housing. Without access to effective treatment and ongoing support, one may find it more and more challenging to break free from homelessness.

This gathering is part of our ongoing Opening Doors To... event series, where the Opening Doors Fairfield County community comes together to share knowledge and resources on topics related to solving homelessness, including employment, health and wellness, aging, and more.
