New London Fair Rent Commission Training

A fair rent commission in Connecticut is a local board that reviews tenant complaints about excessive rents or poor housing conditions, investigates and holds hearings, and can order rent reductions when it determines a landlord’s charges are harsh or unfair. Join the Center for Housing Opportunity Eastern Connecticut for a training with the New London Fair Rent Commission designed to help tenants understand their rights and navigate the Fair Rent Commission process, hosted in partnership with the CT Fair Housing Center.

This training will give tenants the tools to:

  • Understand the FRC's Mission: What is this volunteer commission, and how does it legally define an "excessive" or "harsh and unconscionable" rent?
  • Discover their Tools: Learn how they can mandate repairs, block or phase-in an unfair rent increase, and even force your landlord to accept a lower, fair-market rate.
  • Create your Action Plan: We'll break down the complaint process step-by-step so you can confidently use the FRC to protect your financial stability and your home's safety.
