Open Classroom: Housing Justice & Urban Planning

Please join the Center for Housing Opportunity Eastern Connecticut and Eastern Connecticut State University students, staff, and faculty for the next installment in our Housing Justice Open Classroom experience! We continue our series of conversations on housing justice and related issues. Prior conversations have focused on food insecurity and education. This conversation covers the relationship between housing justice and urban planning.

Dr Ricardo Perez, Professor of Anthropology, ecsu

Dr. Pérez is a cultural anthropologist whose research agenda focuses on state-led development processes in the present context of cultural and economic globalization. He has conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the United States. Currently, he is Coordinator of the Anthropology Program as well as the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program.

Savannah-Nicole “SN” Villalba, AICP, AZT, is CRCOG’s new Principal Housing Planner. SN has over seven years of regional and municipal planning experience. Her areas of focus are housing planning and policy, comprehensive planning, land use, and community engagement.

SN holds a BA in Sociology and Urban and Community Studies from the University of Connecticut, a MA in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University, and is currently a 3LE in the University of Connecticut School of Law’s Evening Division.
